Got Questions?

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about self-hosting, security, and browser integration.

Is AMPass 100% free and open-source? +
Yes! AMPass is licensed under the GNU Affero General Public License (AGPL v3). All code is fully open-source and available on GitHub for audit and self-hosting.
How does the zero-knowledge encryption work? +
Your master password is never stored or transmitted. All encryption and decryption operations happen strictly on your local device using AES-256-GCM symmetric encryption and PBKDF2/Argon2id key derivation.
How does the automatic Windows Remote Desktop (MSTSC) launcher work? +
AMPass desktop application interfaces directly with Windows Remote Desktop Connection (`MSTSC.exe`). When you click 'Connect', AMPass passes the IP address, port, domain, username, and password securely into Windows Credential Manager for automated single-click sign-in.
Why doesn't the extension get deleted when Windows restarts? +
The extension is stored in your permanent `%LOCALAPPDATA%\AMPass\extension` directory and registered directly in the Windows Registry (`HKCU\Software\Google\Chrome\Extensions\inplekppjckeipiodgkjnipeafhadfni`), ensuring total reboot persistence.
